How to measure the ROI of AI automation in NZ
A simple, honest framework for estimating value before you invest and proving it after launch.
31 August 2026 · 5 min read
Establish a baseline
Before launch, record current call and message volumes, average handling time, after-hours enquiries, abandonment and the staff time spent on routine work. Without a baseline, improvements are guesswork.
Count time and revenue
Value usually comes from two directions: time returned to staff from routine contacts, and revenue protected by capturing enquiries that would otherwise be missed. Use your own labour costs and average job or order values in NZ dollars.
Include the real costs
Account for platform fees, set-up, integration work, knowledge preparation and ongoing review time. A realistic model is more persuasive to decision-makers than an optimistic one.
Review and adjust
Compare results with the baseline at 30, 60 and 90 days. Look at quality as well as volume: resolution rates, handover quality and customer feedback. Our whitepaper includes illustrative scenarios you can adapt.
